Investigating Linguistic Abilities and its Relationship with Empathy, Emotional Intelligence and Cognitive Flexibility

Purpose. Languages play an important role in shaping our brain and personality. Numerous studies the past have found that bilingual trilingual individuals outperform monolinguals on certain cognitive assessments. In some studies, outperformed other two groups emotional tests. Most of reported mixed findings this topic, making it difficult to draw conclusions.
 Procedure. For first time, present study attempts examine linguistic ability, empathy, intelligence flexibility Indian sample 90 participants (Mage = 26.86 years, SD 7.45) (28 monolingual, 30 32 trilingual). Each completed Interpersonal Reactivity Index Questionnaire, Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – Short Form Colour Stroop Test PEBL (Psychology Experiment Building Language) software.
 Results. One Way ANOVA revealed statistically significant results for Empathy [F(2,87) 218.84, p < 0.001], 232.19, 0.001] Cognitive Flexibility 27.05, 0.001]. Mean empathy score was 38.67 monolingual group, 65.86 group 81.25 group. 76.32 monolinguals, 151.93 bilinguals 195.15 conflict 253.24 108.29 20.64 Pairwise comparisons Tukey’s HSD displayed differences across groups, with outperforming all three variables. Results from showed large effect sizes (η2): 0.84 EI, 0.83 0.38 flexibility.
 Conclusions. Findings highlight played by languages associated benefits they offer. Participants speaking more dominated as had better when compared their counterparts.
